Cowboys Sign LB Keith Smith To Active Roster, Waive DE Lavar Edwards

The Dallas Cowboys announced Saturday that they have promoted LB Keith Smith to their active roster and waived DE Lavar Edwards.

The Cowboys sent a conditional seventh-round pick to the Titans in return for Edwards at the end of August, but it appears as though they felt better about their other defensive line options.

Edwards, 24, was a fifth-round pick of the Titans last year. He still has three years remaining on his four-year, $2.36 million contract and will make a base salary of $495,000 for the upcoming season.

During his rookie season, Edwards recorded nine tackles and one pass defense while appearing in seven games.

Smith, 22, signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of San Jose State this past May.
