Cowboys Sign QB Caleb Hanie

 

Jeff Dickerson of ESPN reports that the Cowboys have signed free agent QB Caleb Hanie, per a source.

Hanie, 28, spent last season with Cleveland, after spending 2012 with Denver.  Prior to that, Hanie spent four seasons with the Bears, which included four starts in 2011.

Dallas is in need of depth at the quarterback position, especially if rumors regarding Kyle Orton‘s potential retirement are to be believed.

Hanie was once viewed by Chicago as a potential future starter, so there is some talent there. Hanie has not been able to get on the field in recent years however, even in Cleveland, where the quarterback play has been suspect.
