Cowboys Visit With DE Kony Ealy Ends Without Deal

Todd Archer of ESPN reports that the Cowboys visit with free agent DE Kony Ealy has concluded without an agreement in place.

  • According to Archer, talks between the Cowboys and Ealy are expected to continue, but there doesn’t appear to be a rush to get a deal done at this point in time.
  • Ian Rapoport a few days ago that Ealy is still in talks with the Jets about a potential return to New York.

Ealy, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Panthers back in 2014. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $3.546 million contract that included $1.249 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $803,660 for the 2017 season.

The Panthers traded Ealy and a 2017 third-round pick to the Patriots in exchange for a second-round pick back in March. However, it didn’t work out for Ealy in New England and he was waived coming out of the preseason.

The Jets later claimed him off of waivers and he finished out the year in New York. Ealy is currently testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

In 2017, Ealy appeared in 15 games for the Jets and recorded 14 tackles, one sack, an interception and nine pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 61 edge rusher out of 106 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
