Cowboys Waive LB Will Smith & LB Justin Anderson, Sign G Cody Clay

The Dallas Cowboys waived LB Will Smith on Saturday, according to the NFL Transactions release.

  • Dallas also waived LB Justin Anderson from the injured reserve list with an injury settlement.
  • The Cowboys signed G Cody Clay to a contract as well.

This moves comes just a week after the team re-signed Smith to bolster their linebacker depth for training camp.

Smith, 24, was selected in the seventh-round of last year’s NFL Draft. However, he was waived at the start of the 2014 season, but later signed on to the team’s practice squad.

Dallas wound eventually sign him to a future/reserve contract, but would later cut him loose shortly after the draft.

Anderson, 24, originally signed on with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana-Lafayette back in 2014. He spent most of the year on and off of New York’s practice squad before signing a future/reserve deal with the Vikings this past March.

In 2014, Anderson appeared in two games, but didn’t record a single statistic.
