Cowboys Waive RB Darren McFadden & K Mike Nugent, Sign DL Datone Jones

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is reporting that the Cowboys are going to waive veteran RB Darren McFadden after mutual discussions.

According to Rapoport, McFadden could be a potential addition for a playoff team in the coming weeks.

McFadden, 30, is a former first-round pick of the Raiders back in 2008. He spent seven years in Oakland before signing on with the Cowboys in 2015.

McFadden returned to the Cowboys on a one-year, $980,000 contract this past March and is in line to be a free agent next year.

In 2017, McFadden has appeared in one game for the Cowboys and rushed for -2 yards on one carry, even after they lost Ezekiel Elliott to suspension.

Jones, 26, was taken with the No. 26 overall pick back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $7.71 million rookie contract that included a base salary of $1 million for the 2016 season.

Last year, the Packers declined to pick up Jones’ fifth-year option that would have run them $8 million for the 2017 season.

Minnesota signed him to a one-year, $3.75 million deal back in March but he was, unfortunately, placed on injured reserve and later released with a settlement. After a brief stint with the Lions, Jones signed on with the 49ers a month ago before being waived last week.

In 2017, Jones has appeared in three games and recorded six tackles and no sacks.
