Cowboys Will Hold Off On Addressing Felix Jones’ contract

Dallas Cowboys VP Stephen Jones mentioned that they’re in wait-and-see mode” regarding a possible extension for RB Felix Jones.

We’re going to see how his year goes and his health issues along the way and see where it works out,” Stephen Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. “We certainly haven’t ruled out re-signing him, but we’ll see how the year takes us.”

Jones is entering the final year of his rookie contract, but rise of DeMarco Murray, paired with Jones injury history, makes this a much harder decision than it appeared to be just a few years ago. There’s no question that Jones still possesses plenty of talent, but the fact that he’s been so unreliable makes it hard to envision him securing a sizable contract without a breakout season in 2012. Dallas is expected to use Murray as their starting back, with Jones seeing time as a third-down option and in the passing game. On top of that, he’s expected to handle punts and kickoffs as well.

We have Jones listed as the No. 37 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
