Cris Carter Indicates Adrian Peterson Trade Could Be Coming

Update:

Pro Football Talk, citing an informed source, reports that Cris Carter‘s suggestion earlier in the day that an Adrian Peterson could be coming is “BS.”

ESPN analyst and former Vikings WR Cris Carter indicated that Minnesota could trade RB Adrian Peterson at some point in the near future.

I’m under gag order on the Adrian Peterson situation, but I believe something’s gonna happen,” Carter said on Mike & Mike Thursday. “But I can’t talk about it.”

This is interesting considering that Adam Schefter said earlier this morning on ESPN Radio that the door is not shut on an Peterson trade.

Vikings GM Rick Spielman tried to put an end to the speculation earlier in the week, but his comments have done little to stop the buzz that Peterson could be traded.

The Cowboys, Cardinals, Jaguars, and Buccaneers have all come up as potential landing spots for Peterson. However, the Cowboys and Jaguars have both down played their level of interest.

Peterson, 30, still has another three years remaining on his seven-year, $96 million contract that included $36 million guaranteed. Over the next three years, Peterson stands to make base salaries of $12.75 million (2015), $14.75 million (2016), and $16.75 million (2017).

As for his cap figures, the Vikings are looking at $15.4 million (2015), $15 million (2016), and $17 million (2017).

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Peterson would free up $13 million in available cap space and create $2.4 million dead money.

Peterson appeared in just one game for the Vikings and ran for 75 yards on 21 carries (3.6 YPC) while adding two receptions for 18 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding a potential Peterson trade as the news is available.
