Darrelle Revis Training In Florida, Hoping To Play This Year

Jason Cole of B/R reports that free agent CB Darrelle Revis has been training in Southern Florida in the hope of playing this year.

However, Cole adds that the $6 million in offsets he has coming his way from the Jets still means he would likely have to play for free this season.

There hasn’t been any reported interest in Revis for several months now. Cowboys WR Dez Bryant tried to recruit him to join the Cowboys last month, but there has been no indication that this is a serious consideration for Dallas.

The Jets owe Revis $6 million for the 2017 season whether he plays or not, which means there isn’t much of an incentive for him to play for a low-money deal, seeing has he’ll make more by doing nothing.

Revis, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2007. He was entering the third year of his five-year, $70 million contract that includes $39 million guaranteed and was set to make a base salary of $13 million for the 2017 season when he was released by the Jets.

In 2016, Revis appeared in 15 games for the Jets and recorded 53 tackles, one interception, and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 66 cornerback out of 112 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
