Darren McFadden’s Lack Of Production Due To Blocking Scheme?

New Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Knapp has implemented a new zone-blocking scheme this season and it hasn’t been all that successful so far. Running back Darren McFadden has been quiet, to say the least, in the Raiders first two games of the season, which has left people wondering if the Raiders should return to the power-blocking scheme that they were using under former head coach Hue Jackson.

“I’ve got all the confidence in the world in our running game,” Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said Wednesday, via Jerry McDonald of the San Jose Mercury News. “I’ve seen it work. It’s been successful in this league, and we’ve got the right personnel to get it done.”

It sounds as though the Raiders won’t make any tweaks to their scheme. So far this year, McFadden is averaging just 2.1 YPC, which is 2.5 yards less per carry than his career average. It won’t get any easier for McFadden and the Raiders as they take on the Steelers this Sunday, a defense that hasn’t allowed over 100 yards rushing in a game since 2003
