David Hawthorne Reworks Contract To Remain With The Saints

Evan Woodbery of The Times-Picayune reports that Saints LB David Hawthorne accepted a pay cut in order to remain with in New Orleans.

There was a lot of talk that Hawthorne could be a cap casualty in the coming weeks, but it looks like they were able to get things worked out in the end.

According to Woodbery, Hawthorne base salary was cut from $2 million to $1.19 million for the 2015 season. On top of that, Hawthorne agreed to reduce his $4 million 2016 salary to $1.75 million.

Hawthorne, 29, has two years remaining on his five-year, $19 million contract that included $3.8 million guaranteed.

In 2014, he recorded 83 tackles, three sacks, one interception and three pass defenses for the Saints. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 28 outside linebacker out of 40 qualifying players.
