DeAngelo Williams Hoping To Retire As A Panther?

Update: “If DeAngelo Williams leaves Carolina without a deal today it’s on like Donkey Kong,” says beat writer Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Kelly obviously expects the Dolphins to actively pursue Williams if he chooses to test the market.

During a video chat on Monday with some of his fans, Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams mentioned that he would like finish his career in Carolina.

I honestly and truly want to stay a Carolina Panther and they’re doing their part of keep me a Carolina Panther,” Williams said, according to Steve Reed of the Gaston Gazette. “So I’m very excited about that. Carolina gets the first stab at me. If everything looks great, then why entertain other offers? So that’s where we stand right now.”

There are possibly a few other teams I don’t know about right now, but I’m pretty excited about where we are going as far as me and the Panthers. Wish me luck. I’m going in (to the stadium) as a Panther and I want to stay a Panther. I want to retire as Panther. But at the end of the day it’s a business.

Williams is considered the best available running back in this years market and has been linked to other teams like the Miami Dolphins and the Denver Broncos but recent reports have mentions that there’s a good chance that he stays in Carolina. Considering that this years free agent market will be accelerated, the Broncos and Dolphins may not even get a shot at him.
