“Decent Gap” In Contract Talks Between Redskins & ILB Zach Brown

According to John Keim, the Redskins would like to re-sign veteran LB Zach Brown and have already discussed a potential deal with him. However, Washington is currently unwilling to meet Brown’s asking price, as there appears to be a “decent gap” between the two parties.

Keim mentions that if Brown is looking to be one of the top-10 highest paid inside linebackers in the NFL, it’s unlikely he’ll get that kind of money from the Redskins.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported a month ago that the Redskins were working to sign Brown to an extension.

Last year, Brown didn’t land the kind of contract he was looking for in free agency, and considering that this could be his last opportunity to cash in a long-term contract, it would make sense for him to target the best available contract.

Brown, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Titans back in 2012. He finished his four-year rookie contract with Tennessee before signing a one-year, $1,250,000 contract with the Bills as an unrestricted free agent in 2016.

After finding less interest than anticipated, Brown agreed to a one-year, $2.3 million contract with the Redskins.

In 2017, Brown has appeared in 13 games and recorded 127 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two pass defenses for the Redskins. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 52 linebacker out of 87 qualifying players.

We have Brown featured in our Top 100 – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
