Report: Raiders Could Give Michael Vick The “Best Opportunity” To Start

Update:

According to Jason La Canfora, the Oakland Raiders could offer Michael Vick the “best opportunity” at a starting job next season.

  • La Canfora mentions that the 49ers, Buccaneers, Texans and Vikings are also exploring free agent quarterbacks with Houston being a “likely landing spot” for Vick.
  • Assuming the Vikings do not re-sign free agent QB Matt Cassel, La Canfora believes they could also be a fit for Vick.

————-

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that there is already a “decent market” forming for free agent QB Michael Vick.

Jets

Ian Rapoport recently reported that the Jets are viewed by people around the league as a “legitimate possible landing spot” for Vick.

Rich Cimini of ESPN New York also mentions that the Jets are “intrigued” by Vick, and believes they should sign him.

While La Canfora doesn’t refute the idea that the Jets could be in the market for a veteran quarterback, he does question how much they will be willing to spend on the position.

  • La Canfora adds that Vick to the Jets is “anything but a sure thing.”

Eagles

As for the Eagles, La Canfora points out that they will have plenty of cap space available and already know that Vick is a fit in their offensive system.

The problem here is that Nick Foles is going to be their starting quarterback next season and Vick has said that he would like to find an opportunity to at least compete for a starting job next year.

Other Speculative Options

  • According to La Canfora, the 49ers, Raiders, and Buccaneers are all looking for a veteran backup.

Vick, who will be 34 in June, is widely considered to be the best available quarterback in this year’s free agent class. His durability remains a question mark and his age isn’t exactly ideal. However the limited depth at quarterback should be enough for Vick to at least secure an opportunity to compete for a starting job in training camp.

We have Vick listed as the No. 42 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

  1. Absolutely not!!signing vick will be the same as having terrelle pryor on the roster next year.not to mention he’s injury prone and wouldn’t help the rebuild sign someone like josh freeman knows greg olson’s system and would be on a one year contract or mark Sanchez young and both playoff experienced and would be a great mentor to a rookie QB.

    • I agree 100%. I think he could be signed for pretty cheap. I would love for them to sign Vick and draft Watkins. Sign a decent RB, and then draft O line and D the rest of the way in the draft.

  2. Vick in Oakland..sounds good to me..who better than vick to teach the young talented qb roster in Oakland..but with an elite offense line..because that line last year would have gotten Any Quarterback in the league hurt..Along with a top ranked defense..come on Reggie..Even a blind man can see that..Just Win Baby!!

    • What talented QB’s on the roster?!mcgloin will be a back up at best and terrelle pryor will be released proably after the draft.vick had a great Oline in philly todd hermans, jason peters, jason kelce, lane johnson and not only did he lose the starting job to nick foles but he had a ton of offensive weapons in desean jackson, riley cooper, jeremy maclin, brent celek and lesean mccoy and still wasn’t able to produce.I don’t know if you notice but the raiders roster doesn’t have that kind of talent and even if we did he would get injured in 2 weeks into the season.
