DeMeco Ryans Expected To Be Back With Eagles Next Year

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Eagles ILB DeMeco Ryans is expected to be back with the team in 2015, even after they acquired Kiko Alonso in a trade for LeSean McCoy on Tuesday.

  • Rapoport adds that the Eagles could still rework his contract.

It seemed like Ryans could be the next man to go in Philadelphia given his salary and the fact that they’ve already added two linebackers in the past week.

The Eagles are now projected to have around $40 million in cap space to work with at the start of free agency, so it’s not as though they’re in need of more room under the cap.

Ryan, 30, has one year remaining on his six-year, $48 million contract that included $21.75 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $6.8 million for the 2015 season to go along with a cap figure of $6.9 million.

Releasing Ryans would result in dead money and create $6.9 million in available cap space for the Eagles.

In 2014, Ryan appeared in eight games and recorded 45 tackles, one interception, a fumble recovery, and four pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has Ryans rated as the No. 25 inside linebacker out of 60 qualifying players.
