Report: Eagles Unlikely To Rework WR DeSean Jackson’s Contract

Update:

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Eagles are unlikely to rework WR DeSean Jackson‘s contract this offseason.

McLane’s source added that although the Eagles could lower Jackson’s 2014 cap figure by restructuring his current deal, it’s unlikely that the team will do so in the coming months.

Jackson told reporters earlier in the week that he felt as though he was “deserving” of a new contract, but he refuted the notion via his Instagram account later in the day.

Eagles WR DeSean Jackson clarified his remarks from Monday in which he appeared to suggest that he had outplayed his current contract.

“To clarify any info that yall [sic] people got twisted up,” Jackson said, via his Instagram account.  “I didn’t ask for a new contract . . . I’m blessed to be at the level where I feel my stats did the talking . . .  Injury free year & healthy and wish the season would have ended different with a ring . . . But I’m hopeful that will happen soon . . . Don’t listen to mixed words I didn’t say . . . Tired of dumb info being twisted to what I didn’t say word up!!”

“The question was brought to me I didn’t bring it up!!” Jackson added.  “Know ya info before speaking str8 like dat.

Eagles WR DeSean Jackson told reporters on Monday that he feels like he has earned a new contract with his play this season.

“I definitely feel it’s something deserving,” Jackson said, per Reuben Frank. “We’ll see how that plays out.”

Jackson, 27, signed a five-year deal worth $47 million that included $15 million guaranteed with the Eagles back in 2012. He has three years remaining on this contract, which includes a base salary of $10.25 million next season and another $9.75 million over the course of the final two years.

Jackson is currently the No. 15 receiver in terms of guaranteed money included in his contract. It’s hard to say what he would be looking for in terms of a capable deal. He could go as high as $26 million guaranteed, which is what the Buccaneers gave to Vincent Jackson or he could ask for something in line with the $17.8 million that Greg Jennings got from Minnesota.

Of course there is no guarantee that the Eagles will be willing to renegotiate a long-term deal with Jackson under contract for another three years.

Hopefully we can work things out smoothly and not have to worry about anything out of the ordinary. I definitely feel it’s deserving

  1. He had a career year that he will never repeat. The absolute epitome of boom or bust and too small to not have injury potential. He did not crack 1,000 the two season prior to this one. Where will he go in fantasy? Which is a good estimate, because the only aspect not counted on for WR in fantasy is blocking, which he is terrible at…and if his personality, leadership, chemistry enter the fray then he might be paying PHI to let him play.
