Report: Eagles Not Looking To Trade Or Release WR DeSean Jackson

Update:

According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Eagles are not shopping WR DeSean Jackson and don’t have any intention of parting ways with him.

McLane also refutes the idea that Jackson could be on the chopping block.

Jackson isn’t close to being cut, and even if he was one misstep away from forcing the Eagles to move him, they most certainly wouldn’t release him without getting something in return,” McLane writes.

McLane spoke with close to dozen sources around the league and came away with the impression that the Eagles aren’t interesting trading Jackson at all.

The talk of Jackson’s future with the Eagles being in doubt came as a surprise given that he’s coming off his best statistical season of his career.

In 2013, Jackson totaled 82 receptions for 1,332 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. He still has a three years remaining on his $47 million contract and will count $12.75 million against the team’s 2014 salary cap.

McLane adds that the Eagles have considered a contract extension so it appears as though it could be a few years before we hear anything regarding a new deal.

Geoff Mosher of CSN Philly joined Pro Football Talk Live on Wednesday to discuss the Eagles as they head into the offseason.

According to Mosher, Eagles’ WR DeSean Jackson could be “one false step away” from being cut.

  • Mosher doesn’t think the Eagles want to pay him the $10 million he is slated to earn in 2014 and would consider trading him “in a heart beat” if they can find a trade partner.
  • Mosher adds that he doesn’t think a trade as likely, as it could be hard to find a team willing to take on his salary.
  • Mosher also points to numerous off-the-field distractions as other reasons why the team could consider parting ways with Jackson at some point.

The Eagles re-signed Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin last week, and GM Howie Roseman has been talking up this year’s draft class of receivers, so there is at least some question regarding Jackson’s future with them.

Interestingly enough, Jimmy Kempski of Philly.com recently mentioned that the “opinion among some in the Eagles’ organization” is that Jackson is “not a great fit” with the team’s locker room culture, and there is a chance that Philadelphia could open to the idea of trading  him at some point.
