DeSean Jackson’s Future In Philly

Eagles WR DeSean Jackson is having one of the worst contract-year seasons I’ve seen in recent years and there’s really no guarantee that he’ll be returning to Philadelphia like many had believed before the season started.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer writes that Jackson is basically auditioning for a new contract with the team over the course of the Eagles final three games.

Jackson hasn’t shown much of any consistentecy this season but a good game against the Jets would be a decent start considering that he caught a touchdown against the Dolphins last weekend.

NFL.com’s Albert Breer mentions that putting up numbers against Jet CB Darrelle Revis should help increase his offers at the end of the season.

But now, it’s crunch time for Jackson, if he wants to have any sort of value on the market,” writes Breer. “This week provides a good chance for him to start swimming upstream against a tidal wave of negative perception. Revis is the best corner in football and among the most aggressively physical players at his position. Folks across the league will be looking to see if Jackson folds in this circumstance. And that’s why a big game here could go a long way to prove that Jackson does possesses the competitiveness and toughness that suitors would need to see in a player who a) is looking for a big payday/long-term commitment and b) is listed at (ahem) 175 pounds.”

Jackson’s ability certainly isn’t what’s being questioned but his lack of effort and poor decisions will be a strong concern for teams that are considering making him an offer.

Teams in need of help at Wide Receiver would include: Carolina, Chicago, Houston, Jacksonville, St Louis, Tennessee and Washington
