Dez Bryant Open To Discussing New Contract With Cowboys Following Agent Change

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant mentioned that he would be willing to discussing a contract extension with the Cowboys during the season “if it’s right,” via Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas.

On Sunday, new broke that Bryant had fired his agent Eugene Parker and signed on with Jay Z’s Roc Nation, who is expected to negotiate his next contract.

Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports reports that Bryant wanted a deal done with the Cowboys as soon as possible, but Parker felt like the Cowboys were low-balling his client with their offers.

According to Getlin, Parker wasn’t interested in having his name associated with a deal that was below what he felt Bryant’s market value really is.

The fact that Bryant is at least willing to consider discussing a long-term deal with the Cowboys mid-season is a change from his previous stance that he would wait until after the season to pickup contract talks.

Of course, the Cowboys could still use their franchise tag on Bryant if a gap remains between the two parties. The tag would run them close to $12.3 million for the 2015 season.

I’m going to tell you the God’s honest truth: I’d be highly disappointed,” Bryant said of the possibility of the Cowboys using the franchise tag on him. “I’d be highly disappointed.”

Bryant, 25, will be an unrestricted free agent following the season and has emerged as one of the best receivers in the game today. He stands to make just $1.78 million for the 2014 season.

This season, Bryant has caught 50 passes for 635  yards receiving and six touchdowns over the course of nine games. Pro Football Focus has Bryant rated as the No. 19 wide receiver in the league.

We have Bryant listed as the No. 3 player in our recently updated Top 25 – 2015 Free Agents list.
