Dez Bryant Wants To Play For An NFC East Team

Dez Bryant made it clear that he wants to play for an NFC East team during an interview with the NFL Network on Friday.

“Being in the division is a huge possibility it’s something that I want,” Bryant said, per Dan Hellie. “It’s personal. I’m tired of being the scapegoat and I’m going to keep proving that on and off the field.”

While Bryant may want to play in the NFC East, Chris Mortensen says that this is not being embraced at this moment by the Redskins, Giants and Eagles.

Former Cowboys WR Dez Bryant tells Jane Slater of NFL Media that he “feels free” and his “hyper motivated” to this season. According to Slater, Bryant said the first division he plans to consider joining is the NFC East.

Mike Jones of USA Today just reported that the Redskins do not have Bryant on their radar right now, despite speculation that Washington could be a landing spot for him.
According to Mickey Spagnola, Bryant said while walking out of the team’s facility that he’ll see the Cowboys twice this year, implying he could sign with an NFC East team.

The Giants and Eagles both have limited cap space to work with while the Redskins would make more sense, considering that they have over $17 million of cap room and could use another receiver.

It’s certainly possible other teams will surface as realistic landing spots for Bryant, but it’s clear that he’s motivated to play against his former team.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Bryant to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

Bryant, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2010. He was in the third year of his five-year, $70 million contract that included $45 million guaranteed and was set to make base salaries of $12.5 million over the final two years of the agreement when Dallas released him in a move that freed up $8.5 million of available cap space.

In 2017, Bryant has appeared in 15 games for the Cowboys and has caught 66 passes for 814 yards receiving and six touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 45 receiver out of 116 qualifying players.
