Doctors Wanted Lions RB Jahvid Best To Wait A Year Before Returning To Football

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press writes that the Lions decision to place RB Jahvid Best on the reserve/PUP Monday had more to do with the recommendation of their doctors, than his current health.

That’s within the range of where the doctors wanted him to be, so it made it an easy decision — or an easier decision. It’s not an easy decision, but it made it an easier decision,” Schwartz said. “But we’ll just wait and see. Like I keep saying, he’s looked extremely good in all his physical stuff and as soon as we can get him back and get clearance we will.

Best will miss the first six weeks of the season, so the Lions will have to get what they can from Kevin Smith and second-year RB Mikel Leshoure. Last year, Best looked spectacular before he suffered another serious concussion. This is really a tough situation for the team, considering that Best is such a weapon, but comes with a very concerning history of concussions.
