Dolphins Rookie LB Raekwon McMillan Has Torn ACL, Out For Season

Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Dolphins rookie LB Raekwon McMillan has a torn ACL and will miss the entire 2017 season.

This is terrible news for McMillan and the Dolphins.

Miami will likely place him on injured reserve in the coming days and add someone to their roster.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins believe rookie LB Raekwon McMillan did, in fact, suffer an ACL injury to his right knee during Thursday’s preseason opener. However, the Dolphins plan to wait for the results from his MRI for confirmation.

McMillan was, unfortunately, injured after just one play on special teams during Thursday’s game.

Dolphins HC Adam Gase explained he still doesn’t know the severity of McMillan’s injury, but added that they wanted to get him some reps on special teams during their first preseason game.

Nobody’s told me anything yet so you guys seem to have better sources than I do and I’m the head coach so I don’t know,” Gase said.

“We were talking about how he was possibly going to have to be on that (special) team. We knew we had to get him some reps at it, especially in a game. It’s just tough to see a young player go down and not knowing what happened.

This would obviously be a blow to Miami’s defense, as McMillan is their projected starter at middle linebacker.

McMillan, 20, was selected with the No. 54 overall pick by the Dolphins in this year’s NFL draft. According to OverTheCap.com, McMillan signed a four-year contract worth $4,697,532 that includes a signing bonus of $1,556,388.

During his college career, McMillan recorded 275 tackles, six sacks, an interception returned for a touchdown, two forced fumbles, a recovery and 10 pass defenses over the course of three years.
