Dolphins Sign DE Mario Williams To A Two-Year Deal Worth Up To $20M

The Miami Dolphins have offically announced the signing of DE Mario Williams.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Dolphins and DE Mario Williams have now reached an agreement on a two-year contract.

• Mike Garafolo reports that Williams receives a two-year contract worth $17 million and includes another $3 million available in incentives.

Jason Cole reports that the Dolphins are nearing a deal with DE Mario Williams that could be worth roughly $8 million per year.

• Cole adds that this could lead to the Dolphins releasing DE Cameron Wake.
• According to Cole, the Dolphins are still trying to figure out way to replace DE Olivier Vernon and remove the transition tag, which would net them a compensatory pick in 2017 once he signs elsewhere.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, reports that the Dolphins are the “clear front-runners” to sign veteran DE Mario Williams.

• In fact, Florio adds that there’s currently a push from the Dolphins to sign him to a contract Tuesday.

Williams, 30, was in the fourth year of his six-year, $96 million contract when he was released earlier in the week in a move that freed up $12.9 million in cap space for the Bills.

In 2015, Williams appeared in 14 games and recorded 17 tackles and four sacks for the Bills. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 47 defensive end in a 4-3 defense out of 51 qualifying players.
