Dolphins Considering QB Ryan Tannehill In The First-Round?

Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel writes that the Miami Dolphins decision to hire former Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman as their new offensive coordinator could led them to consider drafting Ryan Tannehill in the first-round of this year’s draft.

So far, the Dolphins have been linked to some of the free agent targets like Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn but the idea of adding Tannehill is something that they could consider depending on what happens regarding Manning’s health and availability.

Sherman offered some high praise for his for wide receiver turned quarterback.

Like all good quarterbacks he had great poise. Very confident in any system, west coast or not,” Sherman said. “Any quarterback has to be confident in his own skin and believe in himself. They always say a great quarterback makes those around him better. I thought [Brett] Favre did that. I think Aaron Rodgers does that. I think Tannehill does that as well.”

Tannehill draft stock has been rising a bit in recent weeks but a solid performance at this year’s combine could propel him into the top ten and possibly to the Dolphins. It’s very early in the offseason and there are going to be a number of factors that will determine whether or not the Dolphins will be looking to add a quarterback in this year’s draft but it’s at least an interesting idea.
