Dolphins Could Fire DC Kevin Coyle If The Struggle Again Today

According to Ian Rapoport, it’s within the realm of possibility that coach Joe Philbin’s job could be in danger, depending on the outcome of today’s game. However, several sources have told him that the more likely scenario involves firing defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle.

Rapoport’s sources have said that Coyle has lost the confidence of his players, and if a change is made, it’s likely to involve Coyle.

The Dolphins’ defensive players reportedly held a “very frank and contentious” closed-door meeting with Coyle this week and they attempted to clear the air, according to Rapoport. The issue was reportedly that his scheme is too complex and constricting, and it hasn’t put the players in position to make plays.

Rapoport adds that the Dophin players begged him to simplify his defense, and Coyle has elected to remove many of the complexities of the defense for today’s game.

We’ll have more regarding changes to the Dolphins’ coaching staff as the news is available.
