Dolphins DE Jason Jones Suspended Two Games For Substance Abuse Violation

Dolphins DE Jason Jones has been suspended without pay for the team’s next two games for violating NFL’s Substance Abuse Policy, according to Joe Schad.

Jones released the following statement regarding his suspension:

I want to reiterate my apology to my teammates, coaches and the Miami Dolphins organization. Fortunately no one was hurt because of my actions. This is something I learned from and have taken the proper steps to ensnure this will never happen again.

Here’s a statement from the Dolphins regarding the matter:

“Jason notified the team of this situation when it occurred and has been in regular contract with the NFL, team officials and his coaches throughout the process. We were disappointed when we were made aware. Jason recognized and apologized for his lapse in judgement and has fulfilled his legal obligations.”

Jones, 29, is a former second-round pick of the Titans back in 2008. He played out his rookie contract with Tennessee and had stints with the Seahawks and Lions before signing a one-year, $885,000 contract with Dolphins back in May.

In 2016, Jones appeared in 10 games for the Dolphins and recorded 23 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery.
