Dolphins & Eagles Agree To Trade Involving CB Byron Maxwell & LB Kiko Alonso

Update:

Albert Breer of NFL Media reports that the Dolphins and Eagles have officially closed the deal on the trade that will send CB Byron Maxwell and LB Kiko Alonso to Miami.

  • According to Breer, the Dolphins and Eagles will swap their first-round picks as part of the trade involving Alonso and Maxwell.
  • This means the Eagles move up to No. 8 overall and the Dolphins drop down to No. 13.

Byron Maxwell‘s agent Alvin Keels announced via his Twitter account that the Dolphins have cleared his client medically and the trade will be put through.

Albert Breer reports that there’s still a good chance that the trade between the Eagles and Dolphins involving CB Byron Maxwell and LB Kiko Alonso goes through.

  • However, Breer adds that there are still a lot of moving pieces right now including compensation and contracts.

Ed Werder reports that the Dolphins consider the trade with the Eagles to be “dead.”

  • According to Werder, the two teams were set to swap first-round picks with the Eagles moving up to No. 8 overall from No. 13.
  • Les Bowen reports that when CB Byron Maxwell went to Miami for his physical, he told Dolphins’ doctors that he couldn’t bench press or do any pushups. However, the Eagles reportedly told Miami he was fine at end of last year.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media confirms that the Eagles and Dolphins’ trade is being held up because the Dolphins want to take a closer look at CB Byron Maxwell‘s shoulder.

  • Rapoport adds that the trade is not off as of now.
  • According to Rapoport, Maxwell’s shoulder’s is described as something that happens with many trades and signings, and while it’s concerning, it’s also not abnormal.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen and Ed Werder are reporting that the trade between the Dolphins and Eagles that will send CB Byron Maxwell and LB Kiko Alonzo to Miami could be off due to concern regarding Maxwell’s shoulder injury.

Maxwell was believed to have suffered a shoulder sprain back in Week 15 and missed the final two games of season.

We’ve been waiting to hear what the Eagles are getting in terms of compensation for this deal, but the information has yet to be leaked.

The Dolphins were also discussing a reworked contract with Maxwell, which makes sense considering how large his deal is.

Maxwell, 28, is in the second year of his six-year, $63 million contract that included $25 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $8.5 million (2016), $10 million (2017) $9.75 million (2018), $9.5 million (2019), and $10.5 million (2020) over the remainder of the contract.

In 2015, Maxwell appeared in 14 games for the Eagles and recorded 63 tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, a recovery and 10 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 75 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.

Alonso, 25, is in the third year of his  four-year, $4.300 million rookie contract that includes $2.463 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $941,418 for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Alonso appeared in 11 games and recorded 43 tackles, one interception, and a pass defense.

We’ll have more regarding this situation as the news is available.
