Dolphins Expected To Make A “Big Splash” In Free Agency, DT Brandon Williams A Target?

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Dolphins plan to be “very active” in free agency, which is evident from their recent roster moves to free up some additional cap space.

From what I understand, I would not be surprised if they make a pretty big splash,” Rapoport said on “Good Morning Football” on Monday. “Maybe a big-time defensive tackle, Brandon Williams would be a name to consider there. Maybe a cornerback. If they can acquire a top-notch one, that was an issue last year as well.

Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald previously reported that the Dolphins could again look to the trade market to land a big-name cornerback like they did last year in a deal with the Eagles that sent Byron Maxwell to Miami.

However, there are some options worth considering in free agency such as A.J. Boye, Stephon Gilmore, Logan Ryan and Trumaine Johnson among others.

As for Williams, he recently mentioned in an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that while he would like to return to Baltimore, his future with the Ravens is “up in the air.

“If it so happens I feel like Baltimore is the best place for me, then I’ll stay and we’ll work it out from there,” Williams said, via ESPN.com. “If not, and I feel it’s right somewhere else and that’s where I need to be, that’s where I’ll be. But right now, it’s up in the air.”

Williams did, however, make it clear that he’s looking to be paid fair market value so he can take care of his family long-term.

It comes down to me taking care of my family for the long haul. Baltimore knows that,” Williams said. “I’ve talked to [coach John] Harbaugh and Ozzie [Newsome, general manager] and they know the biggest thing is … taking care of my family.

Williams, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Ravens back in 2013. He played out his four-year, $2,675,000 rookie contract and is now in line to be one of the most sought after defensive tackles in this year’s free agent class.

In 2016, Williams appeared in all 16 games for the Ravens and recorded 51 tackles, one sack, and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 39 defensive tackle out of 127 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
