Dolphins Explored Trade For Browns OLB Barkevious Mingo

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Dolphins explored a trade for Browns OLB Barkevious Mingo ahead of the trade deadline.

According to Schefter, the Dolphins were trying to offset the loss of DE Cameron Wake, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury.

Schefter mentions that some are concerned the loss of Wake could adversely affect Ndamukong Suh and Olivier Vernon.

Reports from earlier in the day mentioned that the Browns’ asking price was much higher than many expected it to be, given the number of players they were shopping around in the past few weeks.

Mingo, 25, is in the third year of his four-year, $16.347 million contract that included a $10.268 million signing bonus. He’ll make a base salary of $585,000 this season and another $675,000 in 2016.

The Browns also have the ability to exercise his fifth-year option, but it’s unlikely they would do so, considering that they’re reportedly willing to trade him.

This season, Mingo has appeared in nine games and recorded 17 tackles, no sacks, one interception and four pass defenses.
