Dolphins Had No Intentions Of Releasing Brandon Marshall

Dan Pompei of the National Football Post writes that the Miami Dolphins were not going to cut WR Brandon Marshall despite owner Stephen Ross suggesting that that was their plan a few weeks ago.

Instead, Pompei mentions that the Dolphins were “intent on purging Marshall at some point” and saw him as a “quarterback killer because of his complaining.” The fact that he was taking up plenty of cap space probably made the decision easier in their minds as well.

New head coach Joe Philbin reportedly wants to compile a group of versatile receivers that can lineup at multiple receiver positions, which is something that Marshall wasn’t going to be able to effectively.

In the end, the Dolphins got their cap space, a fresh start, and two third-round draft picks in return for him and the Bears got the tall receiver that they were looking for. We’ll just have to see if Dolphins are able to do anything with these extra picks.
