Dolphins Have Held “Extensive Discussions” With FA’s Brian Hartline & Chris Clemons

According to the Miami Herald, a league sources has informed them that the Dolphins have held “extensive discussions” with impending free agents Brian Hartline and Chris Clemons.

The report adds that Miami could look to “kick-start” further negotiations at next week’s NFL Combine.

Clemons, 27, was a big contributor for the Dolphins this season. He tallied 99 tackles and two interceptions, but played in all 16 games. Pro Football Focus rated him slightly above average, so he stands a reasonable chance of securing decent contract on the open market.

Hartline, 26, was reportedly “irritated” after hearing the Dolphins initial contract offer. From all accounts, he had a much better season than most expected. He finished with 74 receptions for 1,083 yards receiving, but only caught one touchdown as surprising as that is.

The Dolphins have made it pretty clear that they have no intentions of overpaying their free agents, but they clearly would like to keep these two. We’ll have to see if talks progress in the coming weeks.
