Dolphins Hoping To Sign LB Kiko Alonso To Extension, Rather Than Use RFA Tender

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media is reporting that the Dolphins are hoping to work out a multi-year extension with restricted free agent LB Kiko Alonso, rather than tender him a contract in the near future. an RFA, sources say. Early stages.

As of now, Garafolo says that negotiations on a new deal are still in the early stages.

Alonso, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Bills back in 2013. He signed a four-year, $4,300,401 but injuries have prevented him from accruing the necessary four years of experience to be an unrestricted free agent.

The Bills traded to the Eagles in return for RB LeSean McCoy back in 2015. From there, Alonso was traded to the Dolphins along with Byron Maxwell in return for a first-round pick.

In 2016, Alonso appeared in 15 games and recorded 115 tackles, two interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown, a forced fumble, four recoveries and four pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 48 linebacker out of 87 qualifying players.
