Lions GM Martin Mayhew mentioned that they’re probably done targeting big-name players in free agency.
Anwar Richardson of MLive.com writes that the talk of free agent DE Osi Umenyiora being an option for the Lions is “probably not true.”
Mike Garafolo of USA Today mentioned that the Dolphins and Lions have shown interest in free agent DE Osi Umenyiora, but adds that the lack of money being committed to defensive ends this offseason has really had a big impact on the market for this position.
Before the start of free agency, there were rumors that the Falcons, Buccaneers and Seahawks could also be potential landing spots for Osi, but there has been minimal buzz at best surrounding him in the past week.
The Lions and Buccaneers lost Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett respectively to the Seahawks, so it would make sense for them to be keeping tabs on the available defensive ends. Miami seems to have interest in almost every free agent, but it’s doubtful that they would sign Umenyiora to anything but a team-friendly deal at this point.
