Dolphins Looking To Hire High-Profile Coach, Mike Shanahan An Option?

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report has spoken to multiple sources around the NFL who get the feeling that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross will look to make a high-profile hire at head coach next year.

Cole mentions that it would be nearly impossible for Ross to convince Jim Harbaugh to leave the University of Michigan, which happens to both the alma mater for both Ross and Harbaugh.

Another idea that has come up in recent days is the possibility that Miami could try to land Saints HC Sean Payton. However, Cole believe it will ultimately be difficult to get Payton out of New Orleans based on the fact that he has two years remaining on his contract.

There’s also the issue of compensation and New Orleans’ willingness to part with their head coach who has led them to their only Super Bowl title.

Interestingly enough, Cole suggests former Broncos and Redskins Mike Shanahan as a possibility for the Dolphins if they do, in fact, want to hire a high-profile head coach next year.

According to Cole, Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill could be a good fit for Shanahan’s system based on his athleticism, and the fact that Shanahan has spoken highly of Tannehill’s ability in the past.

Last week, Miami fired Joe Philbin and replaced him with Dan Campbell on an interim basis, but it will be interesting to see what Campbell is able to do with a fairly talented roster over the remainder of the season.

Should the Dolphins rebound and get back into playoff contention, you would have to think they would consider bringing Campbell back in 2016.

We’ll have more regarding the Dolphins’ head coaching position as the news is available.
