Dolphins Not Interested In Trading WR DeVante Parker

While there had been some speculation that the Dolphins could consider trading former first-round WR DeVante Parker, a source familiar with the team’s plans tells Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald that Parker will not be traded.

Salguero admits that NFL personnel decisions are fluid and the Dolphins have said similar things about players including Jarvis Landry, who was eventually traded to the Browns this past March.

According to Salguero, there are currently no plans for the Dolphins to move on from Parker despite the rumors and speculation that have been circulating in recent weeks. Salguero points out that there’s no guarantee a team would be willing to offer any of value that would tempt the Dolphins to move on from Parker at this point.

Parker has a broken middle right finger, but the team is hopeful he’ll be ready for Week 1.

Parker, 25, is a former first-round pick out of Louisville by the Dolphins in the 2015 NFL Draft. He is entering the final year of a four-year $ 10.876 million rookie contract and is set to earn a base salary of $1,918,164 in 2018.

The Dolphins picked up Parker’s fifth-year option this offseason that will cost them $9,387,000 for the 2019 season. It’s worth mentioning that the fifth-year option is only guaranteed for injury and won’t prevent the two parties from working on a long-term extension in the next year or so.

In 2017, Parker appeared in 13 games for the Dolphins and recorded 57 receptions for 670 yards receiving (11.8 YPC) and one touchdown. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 53 receiver out of 116 qualifying players.
