Dolphins Open To Trading WR Jarvis Landry, Despite Franchise Tag?

A league source tells Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that the Dolphins’ decision to franchise WR Jarvis Landry at the start of the period to tag players is being interpreted as a desire by Miami to trade him.

Florio admits that a trade involving Landry is unlikely unless he’s willing to agree to a long-term contract with another team.

Landry could complicate matters further simply by refusing to sign a long-term deal, considering that he now stands to make $16 million fully guaranteed for the 2018 season before once again being in position to test free agency in 2019.

Of course, a team could always franchise him for a second time, but that would come with a 20 percent increase above the $16 million he’ll make this year.

Even so, Florio adds that “every team is on notice that Landry possibly could be had — if a deal can be worked out both with the player and his current team.

Landry, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2014. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $3.5 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $893,852 for the 2017 season.

In 2017, Landry has appeared in 16  games and caught 112 passes for 987 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. He has also contributed 81 kick return yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 19 receiver out of 119 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 100 – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
