Dolphins Pick Up $6.6M Of Cap Space By Reworking S Reshad Jones’ Contract

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Dolphins restructured the contract of S Reshad Jones and in turn created $6.6M in cap space.

  • According to Yates, Jones agreed to reduce his base salary from $9.375 million down to $970,000 and received a $4.05 million signing bonus as part of this move.
  • Yates adds that Jones will still collect the same amount of money in the end and this helps obviously helps the Dolphins’ cap situation.

Jones, 30, is a former fifth-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2010. He’s was in the final year of his five-year, $30.81 million contract when the Dolphins signed him to a five-year, $60 million extension that includes $35 million guaranteed last year.

Jones stands to make base salaries of $9.73 million and $13.01 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Jones appeared in all 16 games for the Dolphins and recorded 122 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries with two being returned for touchdowns and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 29 safety out of 87 qualifying players.
