Dolphins Place LB Koa Misi On Injured Reserve, Could Have Career-Threatening Neck Injury?

The Miami Dolphins announced Monday that they’ve placed LB Koa Misi on injured reserve to make room for CB Bené Benwikere, who was claimed off waivers from the Panthers.

• A source tells Armando Salguero that Misi’s neck injury could potentially be career-threatening, so it sounds like he’ll likely be done for the year.
• Meanwhile, Ian Rapoport reports that Misi faces the prospect of needing to undergo spinal fusion surgery at some point. As of now, Rapoport says that Misi is planning to try rehab first and then consider surgical options.

Misi 29, is a former second-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2010. He’s currently in the fourth year of his five-year, $17.72 million contract that includes $9 million guaranteed and is set to make a base salary of $4.275 million for the 2016 season.

The Dolphins would owe Misi another $4.175 million for the 2017 season, which it’s possible he could be a release candidate next year.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Misi would free up $4.2 million in available cap space while creating $578,000 in dead money.

In 2016, Misi has appeared in three games and recorded 22 tackles for the Dolphins.
