Dolphins Players Frustrated With DC Kevin Coyle’s “Complicated” System

Jason Cole of B/R has spoken to multiple sources within the Miami Dolphins’ organization who have said that the players are quickly losing confidence in DC Kevin Coyle.

The main reason for the concern boils down to the performance of the unit, who many expected to be one of the best defenses in the league. According to Cole, Coyle’s system is “too complicated” and players are overthinking situations and not playing to overall strength of the defense.

Ndamukong Suh has been a clear disappointment in the first two games of the season, which is evident by the fact that he has just three tackles on the season.

Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald reports that Suh freelanced at times during Sunday’s game, creating confusion in the Dolphins’ defense.

On top of that, Suh seemed to take issue with the team’s defensive approach against the Jaguars.

“I couldn’t tell you,” Suh said. “At the end of the day, we have to go back to the drawing board and figure out what we want to run so guys can make plays and go from there.

Jeff Darlington mentions that whether or not the Dolphins’ coaching staff likes it, they must find way to keep Suh happy in their defensive scheme if they want to keep their jobs.

According to Darlington, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross listens to what Suh has to say and he’s clearly here to stay after signing a massive $114 million contract back in March.

Of course, a number of teams are dealing with early-season issues, and it’s still way too early to say this group can’t get things turned around. Darlington’s point that the Dolphins’ coaching staff has every incentive to get this figured out is well taken, especially considering the kind of talent they have up front.

We’ll have more regarding the Dolphins’ defensive situation as the news is available.
