Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill Has Knee Sprain, Not A Torn ACL

Update:

Jeff Darlington of ESPN reports there’s “definitely a cautious sense of internal optimism” that Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (ACL/MCL sprain) could return for the postseason.

  • Darlington adds that the Dolphins are “especially thrilled” about Tannehill’s prospects for next season and do not want to jeopardize him by a premature return.

Dolphins HC Adam Gase announced Monday that QB Ryan Tannehill has an ACL/MCL sprain but the ligaments in his knee are not completely torn, per Adam Beasley.

“Better than what we thought,” Gase said, per Joe Schad.

However, Gase mentioned that he’s still unsure if Tannehill will play again this year, per Beasley. The good news for Tannehill is that his knee will not require surgery, as it appeared last night.

Andy Slater is reporting that Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill suffered an ACL injury and will miss the remainder of the season.

  • Ian Rapport and Courtney Fallon are reporting that Dolphins believe Tannehill tore his ACL, but they have scheduled an MRI to determine if there is more damage to his knee.

After the game, Dolphins HC Adam Gase mentioned that Tannehill’s injury “doesn’t look good” and they fear it may be  a torn ACL.

“We don’t know anything official yet, but it doesn’t look good,” Gase said. “We’ll get it confirm tomorrow.”

Assuming Tannehill does, in fact, have a torn ACL, the Dolphins will likely place him on injured reserve in the coming days and add someone to their roster.

Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill left Sunday’s game against the Cardinals with a knee injury and limped off to the locker room.

Tannehill has been replaced by veteran backup Matt Moore and is questionable to return to the game.

Based on video of the play, David Chao mentions that the hope for Tannehill is that he just has a knee hyperextension with a bone bruise. However, it’s possible he may have an ACL injury.

Tannehill, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2012. He’s currently in the second year of his six-year, $95.272 million contract. that includes $45 million guaranteed.

Tannehill stands to make base salaries of $9.34 million and $17.975 million over the next two years.

Entering today’s game, Tannehill had thrown for 2,800 yards while completing 66.7 percent of his passes to go along with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

We’ll have more regarding Tannehill’s injury as the news is available.
