Dolphins RBs Daniel Thomas & Mike Gillislee Could Be Competing For A Single Roster Spot

James Walker of ESPN.com writes that Dolphins running backs Daniel Thomas and Mike Gillislee could enter training camp competing for a single roster spot.

According to Walker, recently signed RB Knowshon Moreno and last year’s starter Lamar Miller are “locks” to make the team. Meanwhile, Marcus Thigpen‘s versatility and the fact he’s capable of contributing as a kick returner could be enough for him win a roster spot as well.

Thomas, 26, is a former second-round pick, however, he has yet to live up to his draft status and has been largely underwhelming in each of his first three years in the league.

Last season, Thomas ran for 406 yards on 109 carries (3.7 YPC) and contributed six total touchdowns.

  • The Dolphins could free up $816,321 in cap space by releasing Thomas, according to OverTheCap.com.

Gillislee, 23, was a fifth-round pick of the Dolphins in last year’s NFL Draft. He appeared in just three games during his rookie season and totaled 21 yards rushing on six carries.
