Dolphins Re-Sign Exclusive Rights Free Agent QB Pat Devlin

Jason La Confora reports that the Dolphins have re-signed exclusive rights free agent QB Pat Devlin.

The Dolphins originally signed the undrafted University of Delaware product in 2011.  He served as the team’s 3rd quarterback last season, backing up Ryan Tannehill and Matt Moore, but was usually inactive on game day.

Head Coach Joe Philbin is believed to be high on Devlin, so much so that the Dolphins could consider moving Moore and elevating Devlin.  Philbin once affectionately referred to Devlin as “teacher’s pet” on HBO’s “Hard Knocks“.

An exclusive rights free agent is a player who has two or fewer tenured years in the NFL, and can only negotiate with his original team.  The team must tender an offer by the league-mandated deadline, otherwise the player becomes an unrestricted free agent.

  1. Whoever drafts Boyd will have a
starting QB. This Johnny Manziel hype is just that. Tahj looks faster on film,
throws better balls, and his release is second to none. You can tell he has the
full confidence of his team and his coaches. Not to mention he will not hurt
his team with stupid off the field crap. Lastly he quarterback win against Ohio State in Bowl. He should be around in the second round easily. Dolphins need to study the Miami Heat Management and players.

  2. I watched him a few times in practice and was impressed with his accuracy and quick release. I couldn’t understand the negatives that surface occasionally. Yes, we probably should cap space by trading Moore (5m?).

    • I agree he was better than Moore, but we really do not have a large enough sampling of his passing ability to really determine if he is more accurate than Tannehill. Other than some long ball issues specifically with Wallace, Tannehill is fairly accurate. He had a 60.4 cmp% last year.
