Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins are re-signing former second-round pick RB Daniel Thomas to a contract.

This comes just a day after the Dolphins lost Knowshon Moreno for an extended period of time to a dislocated elbow, so they could use some depth at running back.

Miami waived Thomas a few weeks ago as they worked to get their roster down to 53 players. Since then, Thomas worked out for the Patriots, but there was no word regarding a possible deal with New England.

Thomas, 26, is a former second-round pick, who never lived up to his draft status and has been largely underwhelming in each of his first three years in the league. Last season, Thomas ran for 406 yards on 109 carries (3.7 YPC) and contributed six total touchdowns.
