Andrew Abramson reports that the Miami Dolphins have released veteran CB Cortland Finnegan.

There has been talk that Finnegan could end up being a cap casualty for Miami, and given the amount of cap space they’ll get from this move, it’s really not that surprising they ultimately decided to part ways.

Finnegan, 31, still had one year remaining on his two-year, $11 million contract and would have made $5.45 million for the 2015 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Finnegan will free up $5.475 million in available cap space while creating $1 million in dead money.

Last year, he recorded 44 tackles, one forced fumble, a recovery, nine pass defenses and scored a defensive touchdown over the course of 12 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 74 cornerback out of 108 qualifying players.
