Dolphins Release Veteran CB Byron Maxwell, Sign QB David Fales

Adam Schefter reports that the Dolphins are releasing veteran CB Byron Maxwell on Tuesday and are likely signing QB David Fales to their active roster.

It was clear that Maxwell’s time in Miami was likely coming to an end at some point in the near future, given that he hasn’t been active for a game since Week 3.

The Dolphins will move forward with Xavien Howard and Cordrea Tankersley at cornerback.

Maxwell, 29, is a former sixth-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2011. He signed a six-year, $63 million contract that included $25 million guaranteed with the Eagles as a free agent before he was later traded to the Dolphins along with LB Kiko Alonso.

Maxwell was set to make base salaries of $10 million (2017) $9.75 million (2018), $9.5 million (2019), and $10.5 million (2020) over the remainder of the contract.

In 2017, Maxwell was active for just two games and recorded eight tackles, no interceptions or pass defenses and a forced fumble.
