Dolphins Reportedly Interested In LBs David Harris & Mason Foster

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins are prioritizing the linebacker position this offseason priorities and have told multiple people that they want to add a starting linebacker.

According to Jackson, the Dolphins are they’re expected to pursue the Jets veteran ILB David Harris in free agency, even though he’s spent most of his career as a inside linebacker in a 3-4 defense.

  • Rich Cimini of ESPN previously reported that the Dolphins and Mike Tannenbaum could be among the interested teams in Harris, so this idea has come up in recent days.

The Dolphins interest in Harris is likely to come down to his asking price and the kind of offers he receives on the open market.

The Jets have said they would like to retain Harris, and previous reports have said that the Bills,  Falcons and Bears are likely to have interest in him as well.

In the event Miami gets priced out of the market, Jackson mentions that the Dolphins also have interest in Buccaneers MLB Mason Foster, which should come as no surprise given that Dolphins GM Dennis Hickey was with Tampa Bay when they drafted him.

Adding a new linebacker could force Koa Misi to playing strong-side linebacker and Jelani Jenkins taking over as their weak-side linebacker.

Harris, 31, finished out his four-year contract worth $36 million, which included $29.5 million guaranteed.

In 2014, Harris recorded 124 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has Harris rated as the No. 29 inside linebacker out of 60 qualifying players.

Foster, 25, has played out his four-year, $2,784,372 rookie contract that included $1,401,562 guaranteed and will now be an unrestricted free agent in the coming weeks.

Last year, Foster appeared in 10 games and recorded 62 tackles and three pass defenses for the Buccaneers. Pro Football Focus has Foster rated as the No. 43 inside linebacker out of 60 qualifying players.

We have both Harris and Foster listed in our Top 100 2015 NFL Free Agent List.
