The Miami Dolphins announced that they’ve restructured the contract of newly acquired CB Byron Maxwell on Thursday.
- Ian Rapoport reports that Maxwell gave the Dolphins $1.5M in cash back for the 2017 year of his contract in exchange for $2M more guaranteed in 2017. Rapoport adds that this will likely keep him in Miami for at least two years.
- According to Rapoport, Maxwell will now make $17M over the next two years instead of $18.5M, but also gets $13.5M guaranteed as opposed to $11.5M.
This was expected as part of their trade with the Eagles. However, the contract details have yet to surface.
Maxwell, 28, is in the second year of his six-year, $63 million contract that included $25 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $8.5 million (2016), $10 million (2017) $9.75 million (2018), $9.5 million (2019), and $10.5 million (2020) over the remainder of the contract.
In 2015, Maxwell appeared in 14 games for the Eagles and recorded 63 tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, a recovery and 10 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 75 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.
