Dolphins S Reshad Jones To Extend Holdout Through Minicamp

Update:

According to Armando Salguero, the report of Dolphins S Reshad Jones holding out into the season is incorrect. While Jones is reportedly still undecided about he’ll do, Salguero says that it’s “highly, highly, HIGHLY unlikely” he’ll hold out into the season.

Adam Beasley reports that the feeling around the league right now is that Jones has “badly misplayed his hand,” and few expect him to get a raise this year.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Dolphins S Reshad Jones is expected to continue his holdout through minicamp.

This will result in Jones being fined for the time away from the team, considering that the sessions are mandatory. Adam Beasley notes that Jones could be fined over $70,000 for skipping the workouts.

Jones has already skipped all of the team’s OTAs and there has been talk that he could sit out into the season for a new contract.

Over the weekend, a report mentions that the Dolphins have veteran safeties Antrel Rolle and Louis Delmas as contingency options if Jones’ continues to hold out or they sustain an injury at the position.

Miami could fine Jones $10,000 per day for missing training camp, but even that may not be enough to persuade him to report to the team.

Jones, 28, is a former fifth-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2010. He later signed a five-year, $30.81 million contract that included $15 million guaranteed with the Dolphins back in 2013.

Jones still has another two years remaining on his current deal and stands to make base salaries of $7.225 million and $7.06 million over the next two years.

In 2015, Jones appeared in all 16 games and recorded 136 tackles, two sacks, five interceptions with two being returned for touchdowns, a fumble recovery and 10 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 13 safety out of 89 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Jones and his situation as the news is available.
