Dolphins Sign CB Alterraun Verner, Place LB Koa Misi On I.R.

The Miami Dolphins have signed veteran CB Alterraun Verner to a contract on Tuesday and placed LB Koa Misi on injured reserve.

  • Joe Schad reports that it’s unlikely Misi will be a candidate to be activated from injured reserve this year.

Verner was among the players who worked out for Miami on Tuesday and apparently looked good enough that the Dolphins extended him a one-year offer.

Misi is working his way back from a serious neck injury, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise.

Verner, 28, is a former fourth-round pick of the Titans back in 2010. He spent four years in Tennessee before signing a  four-year, $25.5 million contract that included $14 million guaranteed with the Buccaneers in 2014.

Verner was set to make a base salary of $6.5 million for the 2017 season when the Buccaneers released him in a move that freed up $6.5 million of available cap space.

In 2016, Verner appeared in all 16 games for the Buccaneers and recorded 16 tackles, one interception, and seven pass defenses.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.

Misi 30, is a former second-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2010. He was in the final year of his five-year, $17.72 million contract that includes $9 million guaranteed and is set to make a base salary of $4.175 million for the 2017 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Misi would have freed up $4.2 million in available cap space while creating $578,000 in dead money.

In 2016, Misi appeared in three games and recorded 22 tackles for the Dolphins.
