Dolphins Sign DE Cameron Wake To A One-Year, $15M Extension

The Miami Dolphins announced Saturday that they’ve signed veteran DE Cameron Wake to a one-year contract extension.

  • Adam Schefter reports that Wake receives a one-year, $15 million extension with $10 million fully guaranteed.
  • Ian Rapoport adds that Wake can earn a maximum of $17.8 million over the course of two years.

We are pleased that we were able to reach an extension with Cam,” Dolphins VP of football operations Mike  Tannenbaum said of the new deal. “He sets the right example both on and off the field, working his way up from an undrafted college free agent to a four-time Pro Bowl selection. We are excited how he will fit in this new defense and continue to be a key contributor.”

Last we heard, the two sides were still far a part in regards to an extension, but it appears the two parties were able to make some serious progress in recent weeks.

One of the obvious benefits to a new deal for Wake is that it will offer the Dolphins some cap relief and reduce his $9.8 million cap figure for this season.

Wake, 34, was in the final year of his five-year, $34.53 million contract that included $17 million guaranteed. He was set to make a base salary of $8.275 million for the 2016 season.

Wake is working his way back from a torn Achilles he sustained last season.

In 2015, Wake appeared in seven games and recorded nine tackles, seven sacks, and four forced fumbles for the Dolphins.
