Dolphins Sign HC Joe Philbin To A One-Year Extension

Dolphins owner Steve Ross confirmed Monday that they’ve signed HC Joe Philbin to a one-year contract extension.

“We’ve extended it for a year, yes,” Ross said, per Armando Salguero.

Ross added: “You don’t get the best from someone when operating with a gun to their head,” per Andrew Abramson.

Philbin, 53, has yet to produce a winning season for the Dolphins since taking the job back in 2012. Towards the end of last year, there was talk that Philbin could be replaced as the team’s head coach, but Ross announced with a few weeks remaining that he would be back for the 2015 season.

In three seasons as the Dolphins’ head coach, Philbin has won 23 of 48 games (47.9 percent).
